Project

During this term the children have been working towards answering the Essential Question of ‘Would you rather live in the past, present or the future?’


 

This has included:

English

  • Writing a non-chronological report on the Indus Valley         
  • Making note from research               
  • Writing an explanation text on the Mayans               
  • Writing a recount about the school trip                      
  • Writing a story using our imagination             
  • Writing a guide to the 21st Century

Maths

  • Learning about 3D shapes and their properties
  • Making 3D shapes
  • Drawing 3D shapes
  • Using a protractor to draw and measure angles
  • Finding the perimeter and area
  • Finding the mode, median, mean and range of data
  • Making our own number Easter Island number system                   

Computing

  • Researching historical facts
  • Using ipads to make a fact sheet ‘Mayan v’s Egyptian pyramids’
  • Making a PowerPoint presentation on Mayan Masks
  • Researching a testable hypothesis about the past.
  • Using mac book to write a guide to the 21st Century

Geography

  • Using atlases to find areas around the world

History

  • Learning about the Indus Valley
  • Learning about the Mayan Civilisation
  • Exploring Easter Island

Art

  • Creating Mayan masks

  • Making a historically correct Mayan mask

Music

  • Exploring Mayan music

  • Learning about the religious beliefs from the past

P.E.

  • Creating a dance linked to the Mayan myth ‘The Hero Twins’

Experiences to enhance the learning have been:

  • A practical workshop making Mayan masks with 20:21 arts
  • A trip to Bradford’s National Media Museum to look at technology from the past.
  • The final project included burying a time capsule with the 21st Century guides that the children created.

In addition to the projects running your child has also been taught ‘stand-alone’ lessons including Maths skills, English skills, Guided reading, Swimming, Personal Development, Religious Education and Singing. They have also being learning exam techniques in preparation for their tests.
